Mako robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery

Mako technology can help your surgeon plan and carry out joint replacement with greater precision.

Mako robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery

Precision built around you

No two people are exactly the same. Mako technology uses a CT scan to create a detailed 3D model of your individual joint so your surgeon can plan your joint replacement around your individual anatomy.

During the operation, your surgeon remains fully in control, using the robotic arm to work within carefully planned boundaries. This helps them position your implant with a high level of accuracy while preserving healthy bone and preventing damage to surrounding tissues. This personalised, precise approach enhances your early recovery and helps you spend less time in hospital.

Precision built around you

Our Mako robotic-assisted surgery approach

Phase 1

Understanding your joint and goals

Your surgeon assesses your joint, discusses your symptoms and understands what you want to get back to doing.

Phase 2

Your joint mapped in 3D detail

A CT scan creates a detailed 3D model of your joint to help your surgeon plan your procedure.

Phase 3

Surgery tailored to your anatomy

Your surgeon uses your 3D model to plan the size, position and alignment of your joint replacement.

Phase 4

Precision guided by your surgeon

Your surgeon remains in control throughout, using the robotic arm to help carry out your personalised surgical plan.

Phase 5

Protecting healthy bone and tissue

The technology helps your surgeon work within the planned area, supporting the preservation of healthy bone and surrounding tissue.

Phase 6

Supporting your recovery

Your care team helps you start moving safely, with physiotherapy and guidance tailored to your recovery.

What we treat

At Fortius, we use Mako robotic-assisted surgery for hip replacements and total or partial knee replacements. If only part of your knee is damaged, a partial replacement allows more of your natural joint and ligaments to be preserved and can offer a quicker recovery and a more ‘normal’ feeling knee, than replacing the whole knee. Mako’s detailed planning and robotic guidance help your surgeon tailor your implant around your individual anatomy. Your consultant will talk everything through with you, so you can feel confident about the approach recommended for you.
