Professor John Timperley - Professional Bio
John Timperley is an experienced surgeon whose specialist practice is focused entirely on hip replacements including routine and complex cases as well as revision (re-do) procedures.
He works in a team that develops a hip that is one of the most implanted types of hip replacement in the world and one of the most successful in all national Joint Registries. He has helped develop robotic assistance (using the Mako robot) and other advanced surgical techniques which he uses for all cases of primary hip replacement. The most recent advance is a muscle-sparing posterior approach to the hip known as the SPAIRE technique which involves division (and subsequent repair) of only one small tendon. This technique allows patients to mobilise without any post-operative restriction to their activities and to return to all activities, without restriction.
Professor Timperley has been President of the British Hip Society and has served on the Executive of the British Orthopaedic Association. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree at the University of Oxford and has an Honorary Chair in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Exeter.
His is involved in many research projects related to the hip in collaboration with other centres of excellence, including Sahlgrenska University hospital, Sweden, and Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.
John is regularly invited to lecture and teach at international meetings. He has published numerous book chapters and multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals each year.

Our 79,000 sq ft, seven-story, private hospital on Wigmore Street has 39 en-suite inpatient rooms, consultation and treatment rooms, and a physiotherapy suite.
The hospital has a high-spec imaging suite fully equipped with an MRI, CT scanner and X-ray machine. There are three state-of-the-art operating theatres, two anaesthetic rooms and a recovery bay.
