MRI Scan

Clear, highly accurate imaging to diagnose joint pain and guide your treatment plan.

MRI Scan

Advanced MRI scanning, rapid diagnostics and expert imaging care for accurate results

An MRI scan uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed pictures of the inside of your body. It can help your specialist look closely at the area causing your symptoms, without using the radiation involved in an X-ray.

At Fortius, we offer 1.5T and 3T scanning for high-quality images. The numbers show how strong the scanner’s magnet is, with 3T being the stronger of the two. A more powerful magnet isn’t right for every scan, so we’ll use the scanner best suited to the area being examined and the detail your specialist needs. Whichever scanner you need, an experienced radiographer will take your scan.

Our MRI scans focus on a specific body area. We don’t offer full-body scans.

How is an MRI carried out?

Phase 1

Preparation

Your radiographer will explain what to expect, answer your questions, ask you to remove metal items, and let you know if you need a gown or a contrast injection.

Phase 2

Positioning

You will be helped onto the scanner bed, with options for wider, open-ended scanners available at certain locations to help you feel less enclosed.

Phase 3

The Scan

You will be given earplugs (or headphones for music), and you will need to stay still for 10 minutes to an hour while the scanner makes loud tapping or knocking sounds.

Phase 4

Monitoring

The radiographer will keep an eye on you throughout the scan, and a call button will be available if you need them at any time.

Types of MRI scans we offer at Fortius Clinic

Most people will have a standard MRI scan, but your consultant may recommend a more specialised scan to get the images they need.

How to pay

We offer flexible options depending on how you choose to access care at Fortius. Whichever option you choose, we’ll help make the process clear and straightforward from the start.

Private medical insurance

Private medical insurance

If your care is covered by private medical insurance, we’ll usually invoice your insurer directly. Please check your policy in advance and request an authorisation code if your insurer requires one. You’ll be responsible for paying any policy excess or costs that aren’t covered by your insurance.

Paying for yourself

Paying for yourself

You don’t need private medical insurance to access care at Fortius. If you’re paying for your own treatment, our team will explain the costs clearly and provide a personalised quote before you decide whether to go ahead.
